Description

It is a premium, early-ripening and rare navel orange variety originating from Zigui County, Hubei Province. It is named for its harvest season—the ninth lunar month (late October on the Gregorian calendar)—and its distinctive orange-red flesh.

This variety is celebrated for its exceptionally high juice content, about 1.2 times that of ordinary oranges, its soft, delicate, melt-in-the-mouth texture, and a well-balanced sweet-to-acid ratio of approximately 9:1. Often referred to as a “walking juice reservoir,” it is especially suitable for direct sipping and fresh consumption.

  • Primary origin: Zigui, Hubei — a geographically distinctive and protected citrus-growing region

  • Harvest period: An early-season variety, typically available from late October to early November

  • Appearance: The peel often remains greenish (green skin) at maturity, while the interior is fully ripe

  • Flesh: Orange-red, extremely fine-textured, fiberless, and seedless

  • Flavor & Texture: Exceptionally juicy, sweet with a light refreshing acidity, described as “as tender as silken tofu and as springy as pudding”

  • Size: Medium to slightly small, with an average single-fruit weight of around 200 g

With its green peel, red flesh, seedless nature, and outstanding juiciness, September Red Navel Orange stands out as a truly unique early-season citrus, offering both visual appeal and an exceptional eating experience.
