Red Flesh (红肉蜜柚)

Description

It inherits the excellent characteristics of the Guanxi Honey Pomelo, such as large fruit size, thin skin, seedless flesh, juiciness, softness, no residue, sweet and slightly acidic taste, and lasting flavor. Additionally, it boasts a vibrant, attractive color. Not only does it contain the nutritional components and trace elements of the white flesh pomelo, but the natural pigments in the red flesh honey pomelo also have certain health benefits for the human body.

The fruit is obovate in shape, with individual fruits weighing between 1200 and 2350 grams, averaging 1680 grams. The peel is yellow-green in color, with a rounded and slightly slanted shoulder, a broad and flat top, and a slightly concave ring that is not very distinct or complete. The surface feels rough due to prominent oil cells. The skin is thin, averaging 0.7 to 0.9 cm in thickness. The core is hollow with 13 to 17 segments, with a 54% segment cracking rate. The segments are pink, and the juice sacs are red, with an edible rate of 65.45%. According to the testing by the Vegetable and Fruit Quality Supervision and Testing Center (Guangzhou) of the Ministry of Agriculture, each 100 mL of juice contains 8.88% total sugar, 0.47% total acid, 48 mg of vitamin C per 100 grams, 11.55% soluble solids, and a juice yield of 59%. The pigments in the juice sacs are lycopene and β-carotene, at 55.45 ± 1.13 and 41.10 ± 2.24 (μg/g·dw), respectively.
