Description

Guiqi Mango is a new variety developed over 30 years by the Guangxi Subtropical Crops Research Institute. It was selected as an excellent individual plant from the seedlings of the Indian Mango 901 (Neelum) and is identified by the breeding number Guire Mango 82.

The average single fruit weight is 210-350 grams. The skin is dark green when unripe and turns light green when fully ripe. The flesh is yellow, with a fine and smooth texture, low fiber content, and abundant juice. The content of linalool in the fruit’s aroma components is as high as 88.29%. This variety is early-bearing and consistently productive, with good fruit appearance, moderate size, low fiber, strong aroma, and excellent quality. It is relatively tolerant to low temperatures and rainy conditions, resistant to bacterial leaf spot, and moderately susceptible to anthracnose.

Commercial production of Guiqi mango has only been established in the past decade or so. Before this, Guiqi was regarded as an extremely rare fruit gift primarily distributed by governmental departments or as corporate welfare, rarely available directly in markets. Therefore, Guiqi  is also referred to by many as a mango tribute.
