Feather Leaf (羽叶龙眼)

Description

Feather Leaf longan is a variety from Thailand, also known locally as Split Leaf longan, Feather longan, or Double Cap longan. It is an evergreen tree that typically grows over 10 meters tall. The branches are robust and covered with fine soft hairs, with scattered pale lenticels. The leaves, including the petiole, measure 15-30 centimeters or longer, with 4-5 pairs of leaflets. The leaflets are thin, leathery, and range from oblong-elliptical to oblong-lanceolate, often asymmetrical on both sides. The leaflet stems are usually less than 5 millimeters long.

The inflorescence is large and highly branched, with short flower stalks. The sepals are nearly leathery, triangular-ovate in shape. The petals are milky white, lanceolate, and nearly the same length as the sepals, with only the outer surface covered in fine soft hairs. The filaments are covered with short stiff hairs.

The fruit is nearly spherical, with a seed inside (not seedless), typically yellow-brown or sometimes grayish-yellow, with a slightly rough exterior or occasionally small protruding bumps. The seed is tea-brown, shiny, and entirely enclosed in a fleshy aril.
