Biqi is the most widely distributed and planted in China. It is selected from the variation of excellent seedling trees. It is named because the fruit is purple-black and resembles water chestnut (Chinese name: Biqi) when ripe. It is a famous Chinese variety. It is native to Yuyao and is the main cultivated variety in Yuyao City. Therefore, it is also called Yuyao yangmei. It has been promoted to various provinces and regions in southern China. This variety has the characteristics of wide adaptability, early fruiting and high yield. It can show early fruiting and high yield performance under the production conditions of multiple regions and multiple environments. It is the main variety promoted in China.
The tree has moderate vigor, a relatively neat crown, a semi-circular or round head shape, and a relatively short tree shape. The fruit is medium-sized, with a single fruit weighing 10.7 grams and a large one weighing 17.6 grams. The pit is small, accounting for 5% of the total fruit weight. The fruit is nearly round in shape, with soft flesh, rich juice and strong flavor, sweet and delicious, and of excellent quality. The edible rate of early-ripening fruits is 93.5-94%, and that of medium- and late-ripening fruits is 95-96%. The soluble solids content is 12.5%, the sugar content is 10.5%, and the acid content is 0.8%.
