Star Apple Tree

Description

Also known as Caimito, Chrysophyllum Cainito or Milk Fruit, is a beautiful tropical fruit tree native to the Caribbean and Central America. It is valued both as an attractive evergreen landscape tree and for its delicious, sweet fruit.

The tree has glossy, dark-green leaves, with a distinctive golden-brown or silvery appearance on the underside. It can grow into a large, attractive evergreen tree in warm climates.

The round fruits are usually green or purple when mature. When cut across the middle, the seeds form a star-shaped pattern, which gives the fruit its name. The ripe flesh is soft, juicy, sweet, and creamy, with a pleasant tropical flavor.

Star Apple prefers warm, humid climates, full sun, and well-drained soil. It is not cold hardy and is best suited to USDA Zones 10–11. In cooler climates, it can be grown in a container and protected indoors during winter.

With proper care, Star Apple can become a productive and attractive addition to a tropical or subtropical fruit collection.
