Description
It is an early-ripening bud mutation of the cultivar Early Shinseiki (Zaosheng Xinshui). It overcomes the shortcomings of the original cultivar, including poor disease resistance and small fruit size. The fruit has an appearance similar to Qiuyue, matures in early July, and has an average fruit weight of about 300 g, with large fruits reaching up to 400 g.
The skin is yellow-brown, smooth, and free of russeting. After bagging, the fruit turns a light brown color with an attractive appearance. Its harvest period is staggered from that of Qiuyue, extending the early-season pear supply. The flesh is white, fine-textured, with few stone cells, abundant juice, and a soluble solids content of 13–14%. Recommended pollinizers include Cuiyu and Huanghua.
The flavor is moderately sweet with a pleasant aroma. With excellent eating quality and strong disease resistance, Zaoyue is considered a premium early-season pear cultivar.
