Description
Chuliang longan is known for its medium-sized fruit clusters with uniformly sized, flattened round fruits. The fruit’s skin is yellowish-brown, and each fruit weighs between 12 to 20 grams, with the largest reaching up to 28 grams. The flesh is thick, measuring 0.65 to 0.76 cm, and has a milky white, opaque appearance. The texture is crisp, with a rich, sweet flavor, and an edible rate of 75 to 78%, making it a high-quality variety. The soluble solid content ranges from 20 to 23%, reaching as high as 24% in some cases.
Chuliang longan is native to Maoming. As a variety, it has a history of more than 100 years and is a traditional specialty of Maoming City. The mother tree of Maoming Chuliang longan is now in Chuliang Village, Fenjie Town, Gaozhou, Maoming City. This variety is an excellent single plant found in Chuliang Village, Fenjie Town, Gaozhou, Maoming City when the Maoming City Fruit Management Department conducted fruit variety inspections and selections in 1982, so it was named Chuliang longan. Originally there was only one Chuliang longan tree. Since 1983, the government has supported the protection and propagation of the tree. After 20 years of development, Maoming City has planted more than one million acres of Chuliang longan.
